Graham asks Schumer to hold Senate vote on canceling impeachment trial

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) asked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) in a letter on Sunday to support a vote to dismiss the House’s article of impeachment against President Donald Trump on a charge of incitement of violence.“We will be delaying indefinitely, if not forever, the healing of this great nation if we do otherwise,” warned Graham, a top Trump ally. “Our obligation to the people we represent is clear. History will judge us harshly, as it should, if we do not rise to the occasion of this historic moment in our history.”Graham’s letter comes as the Senate awaits the article of impeachment that passed the House with the support of 10 Republicans last week to be transmitted to the Senate, commencing a trial that won’t begin until after Joe Biden is sworn in as president on Wednesday.Democrats will control the chamber when Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff of Georgia
