'Cut the bureaucratic b.s.': Inundated lawmakers call for speeding up Afghanistan evacuations

Dozens of members of Congress are joining the scramble to evacuate people trapped in Afghanistan, urging President Joe Biden’s administration to expedite the relocations as efforts to flee grow more dire — and deadly — by the hour.
Multiple Democrats and Republicans say distressed calls to help evacuate U.S. residents, Afghan interpreters and other asylum-seekers have flooded their offices. The only way out is through the airport in Kabul, which on Monday saw flights halted after desperate escape attempts left seven people dead, including some who fell from a U.S. military jet, according to The Associated Press.
Several lawmakers, particularly those with a heavy military presence in their district, are now urging the White House to simply get people out of the country and ignore red tape that they warn could take days or weeks to process.
“We need to stop overthinking this,” said Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), a Marine Corps veteran
